E00918 – Peer Recovery Health Coach
Position Overview: The Peer Recovery Health Coach will serve as a recovery wellness advocate and educator for our Opioid Treatment Program (OTP) patients and the community. This will include providing non-clinical educational and outreach events and services intended to aid individuals in establishing and maintaining individual recovery from addiction. The coach promotes a recovery-based approach to member care with an emphasis on respect, self-direction, and empowerment by providing peer support, personal assistance, education on community resources, and other supportive services for individuals with a substance use disorder (SUD).

- Demonstrates positive beliefs and feelings regarding clients with varying levels of needs.
- Able to share personal recovery experiences and can model effective coping techniques.
- Collects client data and supports follow-up surveys to ensure long-term client engagement.
- Helps navigate recovery support systems.
- Demonstrates knowledge of trauma-informed care.
- Provides clients and community with ongoing education regarding SUD, mental health, nutrition, fitness, or other health and wellness information as appropriate.
- Finds creative and effective solutions to complex problems and justifies prioritization when needed.
- Provides peer support in a positive and supportive manner through coaching, role modeling, and mentoring in order to assist members in developing skills to achieve their goals.
- Effective written and verbal communication, including the ability to communicate in a professional manner.
- Ability to facilitate recovery support groups as needed and addiction education groups.
- Provide case notes for every interaction (e.g. appointment, phone call, etc.) in the clients electronic file.
- Able to set up and host peer service sessions via Shoutout mobile platform and help clients navigate resources on the application.
- Ensure clients are aware of all appointments and encourage meetings start and end promptly on time.
- Maintains the patient’s comprehensive clinical record, including documentation of activities performed as part of the service delivery process (e.g., education provided).
- Developing and implementing self-monitoring tools for patients to use in managing symptoms of SUD infectious disease and co-morbid illness.
- Develop wellness stations and host other patient and community engagement events on site to supplement and assist patient and community education efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
- New Jersey Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) and the continuance of meeting the requirements for certification.
- High School Diploma, Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Certified Health Education Specialist preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years in Behavioral Health or Psychiatric position preferred.
- Knowledge of health care, addiction, co-occurring disorders, DSM Criteria, and terminology.
- Ability to read and interpret written information; write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; and participates in meetings.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Bilingual Preferred

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
