Specific Responsibilities: * Provide administrative oversight of the facility’s nursing services, and where appropriate, directly supervising the facility’s nursing staff. * Assisting administrator of the facility in developing and maintaining written objectives, policies, and procedures related to nursing services, developing an organizational plan, and developing a quality assurance program for nursing services, and reviewing all nursing policies and procedures, minimally on an annual basis. * In conjunction with the administrator and the governing authority of the facility, planning and budgeting for nursing services. * Ensuring the coordination and integration of nursing services with other client care services to ensure continuity of care for each client. * Interview applicants and make hiring recommendations * Ensuring the facility complies with required nursing staffing patterns. * Assisting in the development of written job descriptions for the nursing staff and assigning duties of the nursing staff. * Participating in staff orientation and staff education activities when applicable. * Monitor, control, and order all medications and medical supplies needed, responsible for the completion and filing of Form 222, as well as for ensuring the accuracy and safe storage of medication inventory * Control and monitor release of patient medical information * Participate in Inter-Disciplinary Team Meetings with the inter-disciplinary team offering professional observations and assessment * To administer/dispense medications in accordance with New Jersey State and Federal regulations * Ensure that adequate recording of the Administration/dispensing transaction has occurred * Ensure that the treatment plan of the physician or medical director is being followed * Giving and interpreting of the Mantoux test * Assess patient response to treatment and medication dosage/interactions and determine appropriateness for dosing * Participate in case conferences, offering professional observations * Coordinate nursing duties with the physician and with other staff * Chairs Infection Control Committee and documents finding and recommendations through monthly report to Performance Improvement Committee * Member of the Performance Improvement Committee * Makes appointments for patients to see the physician * Makes appointments for patients for repeated blood work and X-rays * Educate patients about methadone/buprenorphine and their side effects and checks with patients to see that they kept their medical appointments * Keeps patient’s medical records with up-to-date Nurse’s progress notes * Provides emergency first aid * Counsel families of patients in person and by phone on all medical matters when necessary * Counsel patients regarding abnormal lab results and referrals * Discusses with physician and patient’s counselor important changes in treatment * Discusses with physician and counselor all positive urine results, after recording * Gives assistance and referrals to pregnant patients * Performs medical intake on new patients or re-admissions * Files all blood results, chest x-rays, and other medical records in each patient’s chart * Assists the Counseling Department staff in organizing transfer of patients to and from this program, and specifically in the verification of methadone dosage with the nurse of the other program * To possess the knowledge and understanding of how to recognize and manage an opiate overdose * To understand the clinical benefits and limitations of urine screens, toxicology, and other testing procedures * Knowledge of CPR and Basic Life Support * To be culturally competent * Be knowledgeable of and enforce agency policies and procedures * Other related duties as assigned Education and Experience: * Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of New Jersey * At least one year of full-time experience, or the full-time equivalent, in nursing supervision or nursing administration * At least one-year full-time experience or the full-time equivalent with the management of addictions in a licensed substance abuse treatment facility or three years of experience in substance use disorder treatment program of facility. * Must meet the minimum standards as set forth in the Competencies for the Director of Nursing Services Competencies: Customer Service: Demonstrates concern for meeting internal and external customers’ needs in a manger that provides satisfaction for the customer within the resources that can be made available. Communication: Communicates well both verbally and in writing, creates accurate and punctual reports, delivers presentations, shares information and ideas with others, has good listening skills. Work Environment: May work in a variety of environments including professional offices, clinics, hospitals, or out-patient facilities. They spend much of their time on their feet, actively working with patients. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected
